BREMEN, Germany (dpa) – Headaches are a plague for many during the working day, but not every-one is happy to take a pill to keep them at bay.
Rubbing peppermint oil onto the temples can help, according to Hans-Michael Muehlenfeld, a family doctor in the northern German city of Bremen.
The oil is often available as a household remedy from pharmacies.
Best of all is ascertaining the cause of the headaches. Staring at a computer monitor for hours on end may be one, and standard advice has long been to take regular breaks away from the desk. If constant hammering and drilling from a nearby building site is the cause, the only solution is to get out of the office, although that is not always feasible.
Should the symptoms suddenly show change from those in similar situations, the sufferer should seek the advice of a doctor.
There could be other causes – in the worst-case scenario, a brain haemorrhage.
