MORE than 400 number slips were distributed on Monday during the first day of the pension distribution for the month of December which according to the Penghulu of Mukim Seria Haji Jamail bin Haji Linap, went as planned.
The distribution almost reached its target of 500 number slips which was decided at a recent meeting co-organised by the Belait District Office and the Mukim Seria Consultative Council which led to the finalisation of a better and revised pension distribution system for the Mukim.
Doors to the Seria Community Hall were opened at 10am and pensioners were let in forming two lines; one for the Seria 1 area and the other for Seria 2.
“Seria 1 comprises residents living in the vicinity of the Seria Town whereas Seria 2 residents are from the Lorong 3 area, Kg Panaga and Sungai Bera,” said the Penghulu.
The distribution was observed by Mohammad Fadzil Md Yanie a Special Duties Officer at the Belait District Office who spoke to the Bulletin.
“From our survey, it is found that the pensioners followed the procedures agreed in the recent meeting which led to the pension allowance distribution to be smoother and in an orderly fashion.”
To illustrate the condition better, he said the pension issuance for each person takes no more than one minute.
“Even though there are those who take three to four minutes, it is only because they’re also taking on behalf of their family members who cannot claim the allowance themselves.
“Even though it is better now, there are still some gaps that need to be filled,” he added.
When asked to give an example, the Special Duties Officer said that there are still some who seem to be in a hurry when it comes to queuing for the number slips.
Belait District Officer Haji Haris bin Haji Othman also spoke to the Bulletin and said, “I am thankful for the patience displayed by the pensioners.
“It shows their eagerness to work together with us (Belait District Office and the Mukim Seria Consultative Council) for an outcome which benefits each other.”
In the interview, he stressed that being patient is one of the key characteristics towards a better teamwork environment in achieving the goals and objectives of realising the aspirations of His Majesty’s Government.
