THE Darussalam Motorcycle Association (PEMODA) recently celebrated Brunei’s 30th anniversary of Independence by completing their first ever 30-hour ride across the nation.
PEMODA’s initiative of promoting patriotism through their passion of bikes was applauded by the guest of honour Hj Abd Malik bin Hj Mohammad, the Director of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
Hj Abd Malik explained that the department welcomes any proposals from associations regarding any healthy and positive activities and that PEMODA’s take on celebrating the National Day was truly unique.
“As I understand it, PEMODA’s mission was not only to promote patriotism and celebrating the national day but to also promote safe convoy procedures for its members,” said the director.
He added that road safety is a big responsibility for all road users and that PEMODA’s initiative for proper safety convoy procedures is a good way of promoting road safety.
Hj Abd Malik lauded PEMODA’s progress since its establishment saying that the association has always promoted the Sultanate as a tourist destination through their activities and events.
The 30-hour ride started and ended at the Dermaga Memorial in the capital.
At the end of the ride, awards were given to the ‘Best Male Biker’ and ‘Best Female Biker’, which was won by Azmain Iskandar Arifin and Annie Koh, respectively.
PEMODA’s President, Pg Hj Redzuan bin Pg Hj Ahmad, said that the event was aimed at promoting Brunei Darussalam as a riding destination and that each hour during the ride represented each year of Brunei’s independence.
He stated that the ride was the first ever attempt and that it was a roaring success. The 105 participants thundered through the nation by not only following the road rules and regulations but by also practising a proper and safe convoy procedure.
At each checkpoints, participants fostered bonds with members of the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) and the Fire and Rescue Department.
PEMODA expressed their thanks and appreciation for the cooperation extended by the Youth and Sports Department, the Municipal Board, the RBPF and the Fire and Rescue Department as well as other parties who made the event possible and a success.
