ALL drivers must possess good driving etiquette to prevent accidents or misunderstandings among them. I wish to share my recent experience of meeting a rude and impatient driver.
I was travelling along a wide stretch of road near some housing estates, where there were no cars at that moment. Suddenly, I realised I was heading towards the wrong path but was lucky to see a junction to the left in front. So, I reversed my car to the junction before turning right to the main road.
To my surprise, a car was approaching me on my right side when I was halfway out of the junction.
The car was quite near to mine at that moment, but the driver was driving quite slowly and could stop in time. However, he didn’t want to wait for me to exit the junction. Hence, the driver sounded the horn and held that for around five seconds, which is a longer time compared to people who only honk briefly to warn other drivers.
I realised I was blocking his path briefly, so I raised my hand immediately to make a gesture of apology to the driver and quickly reversed my car for him to pass. To my dismay, the driver kept gesturing rudely at me while shouting angrily in his car. I was very disappointed at the driver’s attitude.
Please, one of the etiquettes all drivers must possess is patience. How can one drive on the road safely without patience? Humans make mistakes.
However, one doesn’t need to gesture rudely at another driver as this would lead to unwanted circumstances. I hope every driver will learn to exercise patience, politeness and consideration while on the road.
