THE closing ceremony of the two-day “Basic Organic Farming” course yesterday saw the presentation of certificates to a total of 137 participants of the course which includes officers and staff members of the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood, members of the Village Consultative Council (MPK) of Kampung Belimbing, farmers and entrepreneurs.
Present as the guest of honour at the closing ceremony was Dayang Hajah Aidah binti Haji Mohd Hanifah, Director of Agriculture and Agrifood Department.
Also present were senior officials, officers and staff members of the department as well as participants of the course.
The participants, during the course had the opportunity to attend a talk by an invited speaker from the Crop Quality Control Division of the Department of Agriculture from Malaysia, Dayang Rosmawati binti Selamat.
Throughout the course, the participants learnt ways of making compost, liquid fertiliser, trapping beneficial microorganisms such as local photosynthetic bacteria, lactic acid, yeast and actinomycetes to increase soil nutrients naturally.
Among the objectives of the course were to provide opportunities to the farmers and entrepreneurs to gain beneficial knowledge to allow them to develop a pilot project on a commercial organic farm.
