PARTICIPANTS of ‘The Professional Public Speaking Seminar: Power Basics’, a seminar organised by the Preventive Drug Education Department of the Narcotics Control Bureau, received their certificates at the closing ceremony yesterday.
Held at the PDE building at the bureau’s headquarters in Tungku, the ceremony was officiated by Acting Head of Counseling and Career Guidance Section at the Department of Schools, Ministry of Education, Cikgu Hj Ali Yusri Hj Gafor.
Also present at the ceremony were the Assistant Director of Supervision Hjh Pg Masnah Pg Hj Damit and Assistant Director of Preventive Drug Education, Osmawi Osman.
The participants of the seminar comprised of 12 officers from PDE and two officers from the Supervision Unit of NCB and two counselors from the Counseling and Career Guidance Unit of MoE.
The six-day seminar was facilitated by Gary Bromwell and Gracia Bennish from the Foundation of Drug Free World, an organisation that facilitated two other seminars for NCB in 2008 and 2011.
According to Gary Bromwell, the seminar serves to provide participants the ability to get across their messages more clearly as their whole job is to enlighten people on the dangers of drugs. The contents of the seminar are about improving public speaking to connect and do things to hold audience’s attention.
The seminar included breakout groups with numerous hands-on drills as well as videographing of participants. It also covered various topics including Communication and Public Speaking, Confronting the Space and Audience and Getting and Keeping the Interest of Audience.
Other topics covered were Meeting Audience and Capturing Their Attention and Participants Presentation.
Assistant Director Osmawi Osman noted, “As this is the third programme it is considered as the professional level and is specially designed for our staff to deliver anti-drugs awareness talk.”
