AS WITH many other efforts in encouraging the development of the younger generation, it was emphasised yesterday that parents play a significant role in encouraging the growth of Al-Quran readers in the country.
Speaking during the Second Convocation Ceremony for 13 Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah students as part of a special lecture during the event, Dr Hj Noralizam bin Haji Aliakhbar from the Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College urged parents to ensure that their children, especially those have invested in the Al-Quran, preserve their respective achievements.
“The students today have worked hard to memorise the Al-Quran and therefore please do help and support them not just in completing all chapters of the Al-Quran but also in their other academic studies.”
As an extension of that encouragement, it was also reminded that parents should ensure that their children are provided only with sources that are of Halal origin not just in terms of their consumptions but the ways in which these consumptions are gained for concerns that it might reflect poorly on those involved.
“Parents need to also ensure that their livelihood and income provided to their children are derived through respectable means and profits gained from businesses ought not to be mixed with non-Halal elements.”
Basing his special lecture on teachings from the Al-Quran and those from Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), Dr Hj Noralizam highlighted that parents with children who have memorised the Al-Quran are not only blessed, but are also positioned on a pedestal that will one day help them in the hereafter.
“Allah the Almighty has assured great rewards for family members of (those who study) the Al-Quran,” a statement that was also reiterated by Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).
As for those who have completed their journey and those who are on their way to become among the respected in the Muslim community, it was reminded that those who endeavour to memorise the Al-Quran should possess the right ethics.
Among these observances, he explained, include the sincerity in learning the Al-Quran, acquire morals that are based on the Al-Quran and to continue maintaining their efforts.
