IN THIS era of globalisation, the development of education should not just focus on academic excellence but the building of a good generation of youth.
In other words, a holistic education in line with the National Education System of the 21st Century where parents have a role in shaping the next generation.
This was highlighted in a speech by Pg Hj Rosli bin Pg Hj Halus, Acting Director of Administration and Services, Ministry of Education, who was the guest of honour at the Parenting Skills Workshop for Primary School at Sengkurong Sixth Form Centre (PTES).
He added, “The parents should always be prepared to join courses or workshops on parenting and gain new knowledge about the education of the children.”
The event also saw musical drama, poetry and presentations from the parents.
More than 200 parents took part in the workshop themed ‘You are everything’ which was conducted in five zones in Brunei-Muara, Tutong and Belait Districts.
The workshop was organised by the Counselling and Careers, Department of Schools, Ministry of Education, with the objectives of improving the parents’ skills in educating their children and creating a happy and harmonious family.
Various activities and briefings conducted including sessions for parents to share their experience and solve problems related to the education of their children.
Briefings and lectures delivered by officials from Counselling and Career Section, Islamic Dakwah Centre and the Child Development Centre of the Ministry of Health.
