THE Pantai Mentiri Open will be held for three days starting from Jan 30 to Feb 1 at the Pantai Mentiri Golf Club.
The competition is open to all residents of Brunei Darussalam and Asean countries. Male golfers must have a stroke play handicap of 18 and under while female golfers must have a handicap of 28 and under.
Awang Haji Abdul Aziz bin Mohd Kassim, the chairman of the championships, said that the competition will see a cut-off of 36 players over the course of the competition.
“We may inform and invite clubs from Sabah, Sarawak and Kalimantan,” the chairman said.
The main objectives of the tournament are to provide an opportunity for all golfers to play in a competitive arena and the desire to unravel the talent of Bruneians who can compete in future tournaments.
Hole-in-one winners for hole numbers 7, 9 and 13 will win a car while hole-in-one winners for hole number 16 will walk away with a 42-inch TV.
“This will be the 26th time that Pantai Mentiri Golf Club will be holding the tournament,” the chairman said.
“The club also holds monthly medals and other past tournaments include Teachers’ Day and National Day. We also host the Brunei Open here”.
Meanwhile, the Brunei Darussalam Golf Association (BDGA) is currently making a compilation from all affiliated clubs to coordinate tournaments that will be held which include the Brunei Open.
“A player who qualifies will play on the third and final day,” the chairman added.
The green fee for the tournament is $120 inclusive of goodies, breakfast and lunch.
Registration forms can be obtained from Pantai Mentiri Golf Club, RBA, Jerudong and the Empire Hotel and Country Club. The closing date for registration is Jan 20 at 4.30pm.
The prize presentation ceremony will also be held on Feb 1.
