CAMERON HIGHLANDS (Bernama) – The Sultan of Pahang, Sultan Ahmad Shah yesterday expressed his regret over a news report claiming that Cameron Highlands had been overwhelmed by 30,000 undocumented Bangladeshis.
He said the report was inaccurate.
“It is not true, not 30,000, that’s erroneous. We should not talk without verifying the information. Don’t frighten my people, especially in Cameron Highlands.
“The landslide report and then the front page about Cameron Highlands being overwhelmed by Bangladeshis; that scared even me,” he told reporters after attending a briefing at the Cameron Highlands District and Land Office in Tanah Rata.
Also present were Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob and other state leaders.
The Sultan also hoped the newspaper concerned would not repeat such rash action, and that the media would first seek verification from the relevant authorities prior to publishing such reports.
Meanwhile, he said the state government would work hard to resolve the issue of illegal immigrants not only in Cameron Highlands but also other districts in the state.
On federal government support to help flush out the illegal immigrants, he said he would meet and discuss the issue with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
