HANOI (Bernama) – Pahang media members, in their effort for a perfect “Road To Fansipan Expedition” by planting the flag of Pahang at the bottom of Halong Bay, faced strong bottom currents and poor visibility Saturday evening.
At the outset, 10 participants of the expedition, including a woman, were tasked with the special mission, but only seven were able to carry it out due to equipment constraints.
Nik Naizi Husien, 55, who is also Pahang Media Club president, said despite facing adversity, he was thankful it was successfully done due to teamwork, after several attempts.
“The currents in Halong Bay yesterday were very strong, forcing us to dive several times. The visibility in the water was only 0.5 metres and we could not see the condition at the bottom.
“Furthermore, we also faced with unsatisfactory diving equipment, but I am proud the group still managed to carry out the mission at 4.45pm yesterday,” he said.
Meanwhile, TV3 cameraman, Mohd Sofiyyuddin Sarani, 29, tasked with recording the historic moment at the bottom of the sea, said it was among his most challenging jobs.
“It is not easy to film underwater in strong currents and poor visibility. This resulted in the historical moment when the flag was being lowered to a depth of 10.5 metres being unrecorded,” he said.
