CHUNG Hwa Middle School (CHMS) students achieved outstanding results when they participated in the International Science Competitions and Assessment for Schools (ICAS). They were rewarded with Certificates of Merit, Credit, Distinction and High Distinction.
The ICAS Science was developed by Educational Assessment Australia (EAA) of the University of New South Wales and is conducted annually across Australia and in 12 other countries. There are over 1.5 million entries worldwide.
Loh Ben Heng (Y10Ex), Chak Wang Yung (Y9Ex) and Kiefer Lim Yi Heng (Y4 Red) were presented with a gold medal from ICAS for obtaining the highest test scores in the country.
Out of CHMS 322 students, six were awarded High Distinction Certificates, 49 Distinction Certificates, 105 Credit Certificates and 45 Merit Certificates.

The ICAS Science is an independent evaluation of students’ skills and knowledge in core learning areas which provides insight into students’ understandings. Through the competition, students were assessed in different areas such as observing, interpreting, investigating, reasoning and problem-solving which are very important for the understanding of science.
