THE Oil and Gas Discovery Centre’s (OGDC) participation in the Knowledge Convention 2014 hosted by the Ministry of Development concluded yesterday.
Throughout the convention, OGDC conducted its exhibition themed ‘Playing with Light’ and its ‘Siuknya Sains’ (Fun with Science) shows and various other activities.
According to OGDC, their exhibition has attracted an estimated 10,000 students from various educational institutions who learned about the 22 exhibits that were connected to the application of light.
Apart from the exhibition, young students also had the chance to participate in science labs activities conducted during the event.
The experiments provided a substantial understanding of science applications which they can apply in their daily lives.
OGDC’s participation in the convention defines the symbol of Brunei Shell Petroleum’s (BSP) continuous support in promoting science and technology among young Bruneians.
For the year 2015, OGDC revealed that they will be holding a wider range of events to attract both locals and tourists. As the only science centre in Brunei, OGDC will continue to put more effort in enhancing the public’s interest in science, technology and innovation.
The planned events include – a national traffic game, a new themed exhibition entitled ‘Search and Rescue’ and capacity-building workshops. A new exhibition focusing on the technology related to search and rescue activities will also be held in January 2015.
In addition, OGDC will be initiating more outreach activities to schools and will be conducting more fun and interactive science school holiday activities for the youth in the community.
Through these events, OGDC intends to achieve its objectives of contributing to the growth and development of the country.
