AN OATH ceremony for 83 research officers comprising 14 supervisors and 69 interviewers for the Labour Force Survey (LFS) 2014 of the Department of Economic Planning and Development (JPKE) was held at the Islamic Dakwah Centre.
The ceremony started off with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah followed by a speech by Dr Hjh May Fa’ezah binti Haji Ahmad Ariffin, Director-General of JPKE.
In her speech she congratulated the research officers for being chosen and told them that although they would face various challenges while on the job, they should always practise respect, good manners and good character when interviewing families.
She also mentioned that the officers have to attend a four-day training to brief them in detail on the tasks they will be carrying out throughout the research duration.
LFS 2014 will be carried out from September 29 to October 26.
The main objective of LFS 2014 is to collect latest information on the size, structure, distribution and characteristics of the labour force, employment, unemployment and other economic characteristics of the population, which will be used to assist in the planning, research, policy-making and management concerning the labour force in the country.
LFS 2014 will involve around 5,000 selected households throughout the country. During the survey period, the appointed survey officers will visit the selected households to interview the household members.
JPKE assured the selected households that the information collected during the survey will be kept strictly confidential and will be used for statistical purposes only.
Selected households are reminded to ensure that the interviewers who come to visit their households are those appointed by JPKE through their survey passes, appointed letters and identity cards.
Results from the LFS 2014 will provide an important source of information for national socio-economic planning.
Apart from that, the LFS results can also be used by the private sector, academia, researchers, students and the public for their respective needs and purposes.
