THE Belait District Office and Mukim Seria Consultative Council yesterday reached a mutually acceptable decision to continue with the recently-implemented ‘Sistem Kad Nombor’ pension distribution system which will be used for the next distribution of pension Monday, December 22, 2014.
The decision was arrived at a meeting yesterday at the Mukim Seria Community Hall, attended by over 50 residents of the mukim.
Haji Jamail bin Haji Linap, Penghulu of Mukim Seria, told the Bulletin that all sides are satisfied with the current ‘Sistem Kad Nombor’ which requires the recipients to bring their pension books issued by JAPEM (Department of Community Development) or their representatives with a legal letter of recognition accompanied by the original identity card of the pensioner.
“They (the pensioners) have to bring the pension book that was issued by JAPEM and take a number which will be stamped in their pension book so that it will be easier for us (the consultative council members of the mukim) to cross check their position in the queue to avoid unwanted incidents such as the recent commotion,” he said.
When asked about representatives helping their family members claim the pension, he said, “The legal recognition letter must state the recipient’s IC number and also the representative’s IC number and must clearly show the signature of the recipient accom-panied by the original IC of the recipient.”
One of the issues discussed was the problem of acquiring queue numbers for the pensioners and Haji Jamail said both sides have agreed to be patient in an attempt to iron out the issue.
“On the day when the pension is distributed, we will give queue numbers beginning 10am allowing only 500 people for the first day. The following days queue numbers will be given from 8am. People who wish to get numbers earlier than the specified time will be denied,” he said.
He said an effective enforcement like this will help ease the pension distribution system and added that he was confident and hoped the public would obey the rules set by the authorities on the day.
The distribution of pension in the Belait District will commence on December 22 and pensioners in Mukim Seria will receive theirs at the Seria Community Hall starting 10am.
