AN INSTRUMENTAL Jazz band from France, Mezcal Jazz Unit, recently performed for invited guests and foreign envoys prior to their public showcase, in which they displayed their years of experience and passion for Jazz, at Kaleidoscope Studios in Kiulap.
The band’s performance hinted at a Mediterranean feel that comprised traditional melodies and oriental music that was imbued with energy and a sense of humour. The presence of a high level of emotional introspection and a Latin expressive attitude could also be observed.
Consisting of Emmanuel de Gouvello on the electric bass guitar, Christophe Azema on the saxophone, Jean-Marie Frederic on the electric guitar and Daniel Solia on the drums, the Mezcal Jazz Unit originates from Marseille, France, and has performed in dozens of countries including Austria, Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Russia, Azerbaijan, Hungary, Romania, Moldovia, Ukraine, Burkina Faso, Morocco, Nigeria, India, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, USA, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and El Salvador.
Prior to their performance in Brunei Darussalam, the band performed in Bali, Indonesia.
The concert was organised by Alliance Francaise de Brunei. The showcase was attended by the German Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam, Roland Grafe, as well as the Laos Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam, Amphay Kindavong.
