THE National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) wishes to thank Football Player, Tutong for his views and suggestions in his letter titled “Take C licence coaching to other districts, too” published in the Opinion page of Wednesday’s edition of Borneo Bulletin, November 26, 2014.
Since January this year, the NFABD has organised three AFC ‘C’ Certificate and one AFC ‘B’ Certificate Coaching Courses, which were held in the NFABD House, the home of Brunei Darussalam football. To organise these courses, the NFABD has to fulfil certain requirements set by the AFC as follows:
1) Each course must be participated by a maximum of 24 participants;
2) Each participant is required to pay a course fee which is based on expenses incurred for the provision of refreshments/meals, training attires and stationery. So far NFABD has set the minimum course fee of B$370 (local) and B$470 (foreigner) for ‘C’ Certificate and B$650 (local) and B$850 (foreigner) for ‘B’ Certificate. Both are inclusive of an administration fee of B$20 per participant.
3) Good facilities – classroom and projector, which are readily available at the NFABD House; and football fields nearby which are also made available for this purpose by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports: and
4) Availability of AFC Coaching Instructors – currently NFABD has two qualified instructors. Other additional instructors or experts, if required, will be sent and sponsored by FIFA or AFC.
The information related to the dates and venues of each course, the fees, as well as the date of registration, would be published well in advance in the local newspapers and in the NFABD website. All coaches who are passionate, willing to upgrade themselves, and who are proactive in their efforts to improve the standard of football players in all districts are most welcome to attend the course.
Below is the record of participation in all coaching courses conducted this year 2014:
AFC ‘C’ Certificate:
Course 1: January 2014
Brunei-Muara – 16
Kuala Belait – 2
Temburong – 2
Indonesia – 1
Course 2: June 2014
Brunei Muara – 15
Kuala Belait – 2
Tutong – 1
Temburong – 1
Indonesia – 5
Course 3: November 2014
Brunei Muara – 18
Kuala Belait – 1
Temburong – 1
Indonesia – 1
AFC ‘B’ Certificate:
Course 1: August 2014
Brunei Muara – 6
United Kingdom – 1
Turkey – 1
From the above statistics, the majority of coaches who have participated in every course in 2014 come from Brunei-Muara District, therefore it is logistically convenient and more cost-effective to organise the courses in the capital. Having said that, taking into consideration the financial aspects and availability of facilities, the NFABD is willing to consider and organise such course in other districts.
With regard to the NFABD DST Leagues, the NFABD during its Annual General Assembly early this year (February 4, 2014) has decided to enforce the qualification of the head coaches, that is, with effect from 2015, all head coaches for clubs involved in the NFABD DST Super and Premier Leagues must attain a minimum of AFC ‘C’ Certificate, and with effect from 2016, all head coaches of clubs involved in NFABD DST Super League must hold AFC ‘B’ Certificate or higher. This decision was made in the best interest of our local coaches and football players.
On NAFBD Youth Teams, all current head coaches involved are holding at least an AFC ‘B’ Certificate and the assistant coaches in our development programme hold at least an AFC ‘C’ Certificate. Their allowances are all paid by the NFABD. Other coaches are basically under the responsibility of their respective employers either football clubs or District FAs.
The NFABD wishes to assure all football enthusiasts including Football Player, Tutong, that the NFABD will continue its efforts to upgrade the ability and integrity of all coaches through Coaching Education in the hope that they will train and produce more quality players at all levels in every part of the country.
The NFABD as always, welcomes views, feedback, comments and suggestions from football associations, clubs, players like Football Player, Tutong, ex-players, football fans and enthusiasts as well as the general public, which can be sent in the form of written correspondence, or conveyed directly, to the General Secretary at the address below:
