A CEREMONY was yesterday held at Kampong Batu Marang Religious School to witness the presentation of a certificate of appointment to the new village head of Kampong Batu Marang, Mukim Mentiri, Haji Maidin bin Tarip.
Present as guest of honour was Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs Dato Paduka Dr Haji Affendy bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin.
The event opened with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, following which a welcome speech was delivered by Acting Brunei-Muara District Officer Mohammad Sunadi bin Haji Buntar.
In a separate speech, the guest of honour noted, “Kampong Batu Marang has a population of around 1,700 people from all walks of life. Therefore it is crucial that the unity and harmony of this village play its part as the backbone for village heads to plan and execute village activities. This will achieve the true meaning of unity and harmony.”
He added, the intention of establishing Mukim and Village Consultative Councils is to solidify the effectiveness of the Mukim Penghulu and Village Head institution as the core of grassroots leadership, to foster the spirit of patriotism and to produce plans for the prosperity of citizens and residents.
The permanent secretary assured that the Ministry of Home Affairs is attentive to ensure the effectiveness of Mukim and Village Consultative Councils, and that it is ready to assist in any complexity and obstacle faced by the respective district offices.
This, he explained, includes financial assistance and the handling of programmes and activities.
“Alhamdulillah, from what can be seen now, the Mukim and Village Consultative Councils are able to function actively as planned. I congratulate these councils on their achievement,” he added.
The event continued with the presentation of appointment certificate to the new village head, the signing of the village head pledge, and eventually a speech by the village head.
After the recitation of Doa Selamat, the new village head signage was unveiled by the guest of honour, in the presence of State Legislative Council members, acting deputy permanent secretary, Brunei-Muara District Office personnel, Mukim Penghulu and village heads, as well as other invited guests.
