A TOTAL of 33 students from Year 8 to Year 11 of Menglait Secondary School recently took part in a two-day induction course to be elected as new prefects for 2015. The event took place at the school’s multi-purpose hall.
Present as the guest of honour during the induction course was Iswandy bin Ahmad, President of the Brunei Darussalam AIDS Council.
The first day of the course opened with the recitation of doa by Cikgu Muhammad Nuzul Asmadi bin Haji Abdullah, followed with an opening speech from Cikgu Shamsuraini binti Husain, where senior prefects will be mentoring the fresh batch of prefects regarding their duties and responsibilities.
Shamsuraini also added that the mentors will act as the new prefects’ role models and highlighted the challenges the mentors have to encounter, especially in coaching the inexperienced prefects in understanding their responsibilities, the ability to utilise new techniques, a sharing of minds, as well as meeting their own personal commitment.
In a speech from the Deputy Principal, Razali bin Haji Yahya, he reiterated the importance of the mentors in guiding the new prefects to become leaders of tomorrow. He then officiated the opening of the two-day induction course.
A brief video presentation was later shown to the participants on the activities carried out by the previous students who have participated in the course. The second day of the course ended with a certificate presentation to all the elected prefects by the principal of the school, Cikgu Haji Malai Shah Eran bin Syed Haji Yussof.
