WITH the consent of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Royal Brunei Land Forces (RBLF) welcomed a new commander, as the ex-Commander of RBLF, Brigadier General Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Yussof bin Haji Abdul Rahman, handed over his place of duty to Colonel Pengiran Dato Paduka Aminan bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud, during a handover ceremony in Berakas Garrison yesterday.
The appointment of the present Commander of RBLF took effect yesterday. The ceremony was attended by senior officers and their spouses, officers and RBLF personnel.
Upon arrival, Brigadier General Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Yussof received the honorary salute and inspected the guard of honour mounted by RBLF personnel. The event then proceeded with the signing of the handing-over certificate, marking the official handing over of the Commander of RBLF’s place of duty.
Marking the new placement of duty, the new Commander of RBLF, Colonel Pengiran Dato Paduka Aminan, received the honorary salute and inspected the guard of honour before delivering his inaugural speech as the new and 9th Commander of RBLF.
He commended the leadership of the former Commander of RBLF during which the RBLF managed to restructure its organisation with the implementation of Immediate Phase with the absorption of several new sub-units that will be carried out in phases within the next 20 years.
“The restructuring of the organisation is designed to move towards modernisation especially to improve RBLF doctrines, concept of operations, defence technology and human resources. It also aimed to develop RBLF personnel to be more capable and adaptable while performing their duties and responsibilities in supporting the mission and vision of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) and Ministry of Defence (MinDef),” he added.
The new RBLF Commander also urged RBLF personnel to go through continuous, innovative and systematic trainings as these will not only strengthen and enhance themselves, but will also reflect their capabilities in aspects of governance, leadership, personnel management and logistics.
In addition, RBLF personnel were also urged to always maintain high discipline in order to uphold the RBLF image. “Maintaining a high level of discipline is very crucial because any disciplinary offence especially those involving crimes will tarnish the reputable image of RBLF,” he highlighted.
With the rapid development of information and technology especially social media, issues involving the leadership and welfare of RBLF’s personnel and those engaged in crimes are easily spread via popular apps such as Facebook and WhatsApp. Despite the validity of the shared information or images, crucial information related to security may be leaked.
He then stressed and warned that exposing or disclosing of any information is an offence and serious action will be taken if one is found guilty.
“This is important because military personnel are people entrusted to preserve national security,” he said.
Colonel Pengiran Dato Paduka Aminan was born on June 9, 1968. He began serving the RBAF on December 9, 1985. Prior to assuming his post as the Acting Deputy Commander of the RBLF on February 7, 2014, Colonel Pengiran Dato Paduka Aminan was the ADC to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam from 2007 until 2009. He graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering in United Kingdom in 1997. Colonel Pengiran Dato Paduka Aminan was conferred the Darjah Seri Paduka Mahkota Brunei Yang Amat Mulia, Darjah Kedua in 2012.
