A NEW tea beverage franchise, T4, was recently launched in the Belait District at the Chinese Engineering Association building along Jln Bunga Melor in Seria.
According to the managing partners, T4 originated from Taiwan and has been steadily gaining popularity in neighbouring countries namely Malaysia and Indonesia, and the recent opening in Palo Alto, northwest corner of Santa Clara County, California.
In an interview with Mok Chui Hou, Lim Wei Sen and Tam Sai Kit, the co-owners of T4 Seria, they talked about their journey that led to them opening the beverage franchise.
Sai Kit, 28, told the Weekend Bulletin how the business partners first met. “Chui Hou is my wife’s friend and we met at a coffee shop eight years ago, and then we met Wei Sen a few months after. We found that we share a common interest of starting a business which is centred to providing services to the public.
“We used to have a boutique located at the basement of Seria Plaza which did not do very well. But we did not let that get in our way and we decided to open another business.”
Wei Sen, 26, explained about their next business which has been going on for three years. “We established Foruture, which is an anagram for For Your Future, in order to help students who wish to improve their grades. We were working as tutors.”
Sai Kit continued the story by telling the Weekend Bulletin that when they brought their students on a trip to Miri, the students insisted on visiting the T4 branch that was situated along the Boulevard Street.
“Being a person who is not into tea beverage franchises, I was sceptical at first. As I tried it, I realised that it has a business potential to be brought into Belait as a new addition to the choice of places that the public can go for refreshing beverages. My partners and I sat down and talked about it and a year and a half later, we are happy to open the doors to the public.”
The trio told the Weekend Bulletin that they went to Taiwan to visit the main branch and office to get an idea of how the franchise works since they felt the need to learn more as it is their first time to bring a franchise into Brunei.
“It took three weeks prior to the opening of T4 to have the staff trained to make the drinks up to the standard of the franchise and there are 50 flavoured beverages for the customers to choose from.”
Chui Hou, 25, went on about the beverages and how they were created to meet the likings of customers. “The customers can choose from 50 different drinks and whether they like their drinks to be hot or cold, and they can have add-ons with choices of pearl, coconut jelly, coffee jelly, aloe vera, grass jelly, pudding or red bean.”
When asked about which beverage would be popular among customers, Chui Hou responded, “Those who love the taste of original tea, they can go for the Jadeite Royal Tea which gives a more classical tea taste.”
He continued on about their specialty product which is the Elegant Lady Rose Tea, perfect for those who enjoy a unique blend. “Elegant Lady Rose Tea is a modification of the Jadeite Royal Tea with added Rose flavouring and goes very well without sugar as the Rose acts as a natural sweetener.”
When asked about their future plans, the trio said that they will convert the ‘pick-up’ outlet into a café where customers can enjoy their beverages in-house.
