THE Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB) and Department of Civil Aviation (DCA), Ministry of Communications has announced the launch of the new arrival baggage reclaim hall and customs clearance area of the Brunei International Airport (BIA) starting from Monday, February 9.
This is expected to greatly facilitate arriving passengers who will now be able to claim their checked-in bags from the new arrival baggage reclaim carousel and undergo customs clearance process within the refurbished area built as part of the terminal modernisation project.
The new arrival baggage system is able to handle up to 1,330 bags per hour which is the projected peak hour capacity of the new airport terminal.
There is a 50 per cent capacity improvement over the existing system, according to a statement.
The opening of two out of the three carousels will be able to achieve the peak hour capacity while the last carousel, due for completion later, will provide further reliability to the system. The new arrival baggage reclaim hall has increased its area from its original 1,165 square metres to about 1,800 square metres. With this, the baggage handling system within the modernised Brunei International Airport is now comparable with other international airports in the region.
As the Airport Terminal Modernisation project reaches another key milestone, BEDB and DCA called for the cooperation and continuing support of passengers and airport users and apologised for any inconvenience and discomfort caused while ongoing works continue to be carried out.
