THE 30th National Day theme for this year, ‘Generation with a Vision,’ will continue to be adopted for National Day Celebration next year.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Hazair bin Hj Abdullah revealed this yesterday during a meeting of the Executive Committee of Brunei Darussalam’s 31st National Day Celebration, which was held at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium.
Present at the meeting were YAM Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz bin Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar, Chief of Adat Istiadat Negara; YAM Pengiran Penggawa Laila Bentara Istiadat Diraja Dalam Istana Pengiran Haji Alauddin bin Pengiran Paduka Tuan Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar, Grand Chamberlain; YAM Pengiran Seri Wijaya Pengiran Hj Ahmad bin Pengiran Mohd Yusof, Senior Assistant Chief of Adat Istiadat Negara; Dato Paduka Hj Abd Wahab bin Juned, Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; Datin Paduka Hajah Adina binti Othman, Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports; as well as senior officials from various ministries.
In his speech, Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Hazair, who is the chair of the Executive Committee for National Day Celebrations, noted, “During the first meeting of the executive committee for Brunei Darussalam’s 30th National Day celebration 2014, it was agreed upon to use the ‘Generation with a Vision’ theme for the following years – until there is a suitable time to change to a new theme.
“In my opinion, the National Day theme remains relevant based on His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s titah. In it, the monarch had said that as a generation with a vision, it is important for us to be vigilant in facing any form of challenge, including challenges from groups who had acknowledged as well as supported our noble aspiration, however, later on deviated from the support to other interests. This is where our generation needs to possess a robust and solid national identity that will not be compromised. Undeniably, the said pure values are needed by the people and nation.”
Touching on sectorial and side activities in conjunction with the 2015 National Day Celebration, the minister said, “It is hoped the activities will raise the spirit of togetherness and patriotism and give acknowledgment to the heritage of national identity relating to Malay Language, Jawi writing, Adat Istiadat and culture through cooperation from the relevant agencies.”
The National Day Run, he said, “will be carried out simultaneously in all four districts in the hope of instilling the spirit of togetherness among the community. I believe we can combine other runs, like running for health or fitness, with the National Day Run. This will help enliven the National Day Run and at the same time demonstrate the unity among people in Brunei Darussalam.”
He also conveyed his gratitude to Minister of Education Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Hj Awg Abu Bakar bin Hj Apong and Minister of Development Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Suyoi bin Hj Osman for their contributions as co-chairs of the Executive Committee, and in ensuring the success of the last National Day Celebration.
The next National Day Celebration, to be held at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien, will involve youth, primarily students from various educational institutions, in a bid to move forward the spirit of togetherness, harmony and unity.
As many as 22 working committees have been elected to carry out preparations in terms of logistics and equipment. It will be chaired by Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Hamid bin Haji Mohd Jaafar.
