YANGON (Bernama) – Myanmar and Austria have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a hydropower plant in Mandalay region, Xinhua news agency reports citing local media.
Myanmar’s Ministry of Electric Power and Austria-based ANDRITZ Hydro GmbH signed the MoU in Nay Pyi Taw, said the New Light of Myanmar.
Under the MoU, ANDRITZ Hydro – a global supplier of electromechanical equipment and services for hydropower plants – will establish a 66-megawatt power plant through a joint venture.
In May, the Ministry of Electric Power and Austrian Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology signed an MoU on technology cooperation.
Only about 36 per cent of Myanmar’s population has access to electricity at present.
