MORE than 200 members from 31 Muslimah Masjid Associations of the Brunei-Muara District yesterday attended a premier forum which carried the theme ‘Rasulullah SAW Mengangkat Martabat Kaum Hawa’.
The forum was held to enliven the recent celebration of Maulidur Rasul in Brunei. The event took place at the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Mosque at RPN Kampong Rimba.
The guest of honour was Ustazah Hajah Sarimah binti Haji Abu Bakar, the wife of the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA), Haji Harun bin Haji Junid.
The religious event commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Dayang Hajah Siti Dzurairah binti Haji Awang Damit, a teaching staff of Muslimah class at the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Mosque.
It was then followed by the opening of the premier forum by two invited speakers from Islamic Dakwah Centre (PDI), MoRA.
The two speakers of the forum were Ustazah Hajah Junainah binti Haji Gunung and Ustazah Dk Norhayati binti Pengiran Haji Md Kasran, officers from PDI.
During the forum, both speakers talked about women’s status and their dignity before and after the coming of Islam.
At the opening of the forum, Ustazah Hajah Junainah shared the historical examples of women’s fate in the time of ‘Zaman Jahiliyah’ which refers to the pre-Islamic period where women were discriminated and treated as nothing more than goods and objects of pleasure because the society, during that time, knew only of the patriarchal system. Oppressions and exploitations of men against women during that time, as shared by Ustazah Hajah Junainah, illustrated that the status of women was inferior to men.
Ustazah Dk Norhayati also highlighted the coming of Islam gave women a new status; a status of dignity, honour and respect. She said that Islam has reformed women’s equality.
Both speakers also touched on women’s responsibilities and duties in marriage from the Islamic perspective.
Among the marriage-related issues for women discussed by the speakers were how to become a righteous woman for her husband, obedient and respecting their husbands and his family, avoid disclosing his secrets, modesty and preventing Tabarruj and others.
The event later continued with a Dikir Marhaban performance by the members of the Muslimah Mosque of Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Mosque.
This was followed by a presentation of souvenir to the guest of honour by Pengiran Alizah binti Pengiran Haji Mohd Tahir, Head of Muslimah Unit of Mosque Affairs Department.
The event concluded with the recitation of Doa Selamat by Dyg Hajah Siti Dzurairah binti haji Awang Damit.
