DEBBIE Chin, the sister of Chin Mei Fong, the victim of a still unresolved sexual assault and murder case in Bukit Shahbandar last month, expressed on her Facebook page the family’s gratitude to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam for being a caring monarch and taking a personal interest in the case.
In His Majesty’s recent titah in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha, the monarch had expressed concern about the recent murder at the popular public recreational area.
His Majesty said the incident was most regrettable as it could tarnish the nation’s good reputation in upholding security and peace, and urged security agencies to find the perpetrator(s). The monarch also called on the public to continue to cooperate with law enforcers for more effective crime prevention.
In her Facebook post yesterday, Debbie said, “Our personal gratitude goes to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei, for being a true representation of a caring monarch. With His Majesty’s personal interest in this case, our family is confident the case will be solved very soon.”
She also noted her family’s gratitude for the overwhelming outpour of love and support as well as heartfelt messages of condolences from relatives, friends, acquaintances and even strangers.
She continued, “Our family is also very grateful for generous contributions of time, advice, services, food, support, money, etc throughout our bereavement. Saying ‘thank you’ doesn’t seem like it is ever enough for the kind, thoughtful assistance we have received.
“We wish for everyone to continue to keep Mei Fong in their prayers and pray that the perpetrators be brought to justice as soon as possible before they harm others.”
As the family continues to mourn their loss, Debbie concluded the message by saying, “We wish to ask members of the public to be sensitive to our situation and refrain from speculations about her (Mei Fong) death and issues around it.”
