THE Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department, in collaboration with the National Blood Bank of the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital, yesterday organised a blood donation drive to commemorate the 44th anniversary of changing Bandar Brunei’s name into Bandar Seri Begawan.
The blood donation campaign yesterday ran from 8am to 11am yesterday at the department’s office on Jalan Perdana Menteri.
The voluntary campaign saw the participation of several officers and staff, all of whom submitted themselves to a health check-up prior to their donation.
The event aimed to enhance the principles of social responsibility by contributing to the blood stock at the hospital, as well as to raise awareness of the importance of saving the life of other people.
In an interview, Mohammad Aera Wadi bin Mohd Amin, 33, said that he is a frequent blood donor and he always tries to donate as much as possible every year.
He said that he always takes part in blood donation campaign, carried out by the department, and often donates blood at the hospital as well.
“This is an amazing opportunity for us (blood donors) to show our social responsibility in supporting others, as well as to extend a helping hand to patients who are in need of blood.”
Hartini Hj Mohd Said, 43, said that it is her third donation so far, adding that she will try to donate as much as possible in the future because she believes that the hospital is in need of a constant supply of blood.
She urges the public to go and be part of this charitable activity in the future.
