IN AN effort to ease the burden of the less fortunate families in doing preparation for their children’s school needs, the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam through Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) has distributed school assistance fund totalling $2,375,900 for the month of December to facilitate families for the upcoming 2015 school-term.
The fund was derived from the zakat collections for the Fakir Miskin under MUIB and divided among 1,442 less fortunate families along with their dependents (4,231 children).
With the allocation of the zakat funds for school assistance, each child listed under the categories received $400 cash in order for them to purchase school essentials such as books, bags, stationery, uniforms, shoes, paying their school fees and so on.
The handover of Zakat fund for school assistance was held yesterday at the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
Present at the ceremony was the Acting Secretary for MUIB, Haji Abdul Wahab bin Haji Sapar, who distributed the assistance.
In his speech, the Acting Secretary of MUIB advised the parents as well as the children to use the cash wisely.
At the same time it is hoped that the assistance would further inspire the children to produce excellent academic performance for their own future.
At the ceremony, a total of $27,600 cash that was allocated from the fund was divided among 30 less fortunate families along with their dependents (69 children).
As for the remaining recipients who are eligible to receive the assistance, MUIB will debit the cash into their respective bank accounts.
