MUAY THAI members of Busiido Mixed Martial Arts had a last day of training on Sunday with their prolific instructor, who assisted Brunei’s golden debut at the 1st Muay Boran World Championships last year by winning a gold medal in the 45-kilogramme senior amateur category in Ayuttaya, Thailand.
Kru Muhd Haiqal Rakhtai, a World Muay Thai Association Second Khan Practitioner who has been teaching the martial art in the Sultanate since 2012, left yesterday for Indonesia to train the Indonesian national team.
Haiqal said teaching Muay Thai in Brunei was different from teaching in Thailand.
“We are all friends in Brunei, it’s like a family. I like it, it’s not your typical teacher-student relatiionship.”
He hoped that his students in Brunei would continue to progress and represent the Sultanate.
“Brunei has many exponents with potential and it was proven with last year’s win at the 1st Muay Boran World Championships.
“With more training and support, I believe this sport can put Brunei on the map.”
