A NEW bus terminal, which will cost around $1,8 million, is soon going to be a reality in the heart of Muara Town. The Minister of Communications, Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdullah bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, officiated the foundation laying ceremony yesterday.
The new Muara Bus Terminal, which is scheduled to be completed by March next year, covers an area of 1.0989 hectares at Lot 6833 on Jln Pelabuhan Muara, Muara Town, Mukim Serasa. A total of $1,833,543.70 was allocated for the project, for which Ambroze Gunmma Sons Contractor Sdn Bhd is the contractor.
The construction of the new bus terminal is a project under the Land Transport Department, Ministry of Communications highlighted under the National Development Plan 2012-2017. It aims to help improve Brunei Darussalam’s public transportation and infrastructure, especially in Muara Town and to encourage the use of bus services as an alternative mode of transport.
Also present during the ceremony were Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Communications; Mohd Riza bin Dato Paduka Awang Haji Mohd Yunos, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Communications; members of the Legislative Council and officials from various agencies.
Dr Hj Supry bin Hj Awg Ladi, the Acting Director of Land Transport Department, revealed that the two-level bus terminal will have basic facilities like surau, waiting area, restaurant, ticketing shop as well as office spaces and public toilets.
He also highlighted that besides the new Muara Bus Terminal, a number of projects to upgrade public bus system are also being implemented.
After the laying of the foundation, the minister toured an exhibition on the new Muara Bus Terminal.
