A MALAYSIAN man who pleaded guilty to criminal breach of trust was sentenced to jail for four months yesterday by the Bandar Magistrate’s Court.
DPP Dk Nurul Pg Rosli informed Senior Magistrate Pg Masni Pg Bahar that the defendant, Sius bin Okit, 38, worked for Daikyo Industrial Gas Sdn Bhd in Brunei Darussalam as a driver whose responsibilities include delivering gas to customers in Brunei Darussalam, accepting payments from those customers for the said gas supply and issuing receipts as an acknowledgment of payment. Once he received payments, he would give the money to the company’s clerk.
Some time between February and November 2014, the defendant who was in desperate need, decided to take the money that he received as payment of the gas supply.
The defendant after receiving phone calls from customers for the purchase of industrial gas from Daikyo used to deliver the gas to them himself.
Instead of giving all of the customers’ payment to the clerk, he took the money and kept it for his personal use, thereby committing criminal breach of trust of the said money.
A total of $13,952 was taken by the defendant and this activity was not discovered by Daikyo.
On December 1, the defendant went to see the manager of Daikyo and admitted he had taken the said amount of money for personal use. A complaint was then lodged to the police that led to the arrest of the defendant.
