GUA MUSANG (Bernama) – The Ministry of Rural and Regional Development ensures residents, especially those who lost their homes or whose houses are badly damaged by the floods, immediate redress.
Its minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said the ministry would also examine all areas affected by the floods and see if it is advisable to rebuild the houses in these areas so as to prevent people from being faced with the same disastrous situation in future.
He said flood victims in Gua Musang will be given priority to occupy the People’s Housing Project (PPR) in Jalan Persiaran Raya in Bandar Baharu here, immediately.
“A total of 1,000 units of the People’s Housing Project are already completed and the government will distribute the units to the affected residents as soon as possible.
“However, the decision to distribute the units has been left to Gua Musang member of parliament (MP) Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah,” he told reporters after visiting the flood-hit areas in the town.
Earlier, Mohd Shafie had visited Bandar Lama, Kampung Baharu Hulu, Kampung Tiong, Kampung Lembaga, Kampung Kundur and Kampung Nerang which were the hardest-hit areas by the recent floods.
Mohd Shafie described the floods in Gua Musang and Kuala Krai as the worst because many residents were left homeless or with severely damaged houses.
He said the government was confident of restoring all the important basic amenities such as water and electricity supply, repairing the roads and providing flood victims with health aid and medicines as soon as possible, he added.
