THE Tutong District Office together with related government agencies in the district hosted the ‘Meeting with The People Session’ (MPS) with the community in Mukim Ukong yesterday.
YB Awang Haji Ramli bin Haji Lahit, a member of the Legislative Council as the Penghulu of Mukim Telesai and the Tutong District Officer, Awang Wardi bin Haji Mohammad Ali, were present at the meeting.
Awang Wardi, in his opening remarks, emphasised on the importance of maintaining unity amongst the community in order to ensure a harmonious future for the next generation to prosper.
He also stressed that village community through the Village Security Bureau and the Village Neighbourhood Watch Committee, which was established in 2014, shall continue to cooperate in combating crime and unhealthy activities in the county.
“Through programmes and activities that are held regularly and effectively, it will be able to ensure continuous welfare and safety of the village,” he added.
The District Officer listed several positive efforts that have been undertaken by the relevant government agencies to improve the infrastructure in Mukim Ukong including the upgrading road works in Melaboi, the refurbishment of the community Hall in Kampong Bukit, the construction of a handicraft gallery for the Village Consultative Council, construction of local stall (Gerai) and sports arena in Kampong Long Mayan.
Several measures to face flooding in the area were also highlighted by the District Officer including building of temporary shelters, flood mitigation centres and upgrading sewerage and road works in flood prone areas.
Among other issues raised and discussed during the session included infrastructure, society, economy, youth and sports. The session serves as a platform for government agencies to share updates on development, including new services and regulations offered by the relevant agencies as a way towards transparency and alignment of government institutions.
