Mosque Fund crosses B$7M

THANKS to overwhelming support from government officers as well as members of the public, the Brunei Darussalam Mosque Construction Fund has managed to mobilise a total of B$7,061,220.19 until October 2017.

This was revealed yesterday by the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) in a statement issued during the relaunching of the short message service (SMS) facility to contribute to the fund.

The extended SMS service was launched by Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, the Minister of Religious Affairs, who is also the Chairperson for Collection and Issuance of Fund Committee for the construction of mosque. The SMS service aims to provide members of the public the opportunity to donate to the fund for a period of 45 days – from December 6, 2017 until January 19, 2018.

Donations can be channelled via SMS service by typing MASJID followed by 1, 5, 10 or 20 without space and sending it to 38111 (for both DST and Progresif Cellular users).

Accompanying the Minister of Religious Affairs at the ceremony was Ramlah binti Rabaha, Assistant General Manager of the Human Resources Unit of DST Communication Sdn Bhd, as a representative of the DST CEO. Representing Progresif Cellular Sdn Bhd at the event was Edzwan Zukri bin Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Adanan, a member of its Board of Directors.

According to the ministry, the Mosque Construction Fund is intended to be a permanent platform for Muslims to gain reward through helping to build mosques as well as a golden opportunity to invest for life in the hereafter. It is dedicated for the construction of new mosques as well as expansion and renovation of existing mosques. The launch is to give Muslims the opportunity to spend their wealth with the intention of multiplying their charitable deeds, solely to gain rewards from Allah the Almighty.

The first project being implemented using the fund is the construction of the Kampong Tanjung Bunut Mosque which is expected to cost B$3.5 million, the statement said.

The progress in collection of donations shows the commitment of the public and civil servants towards the fund with the intent of drawing closer to Allah the Almighty, it added.

Prior to the SMS service relaunch, a promo video clip titled ‘SMS Fund for Building the Mosque’ was presented, which was followed by presentation of donations via SMS by the audience.

The ceremony which took place at the Multaqa Hall of the Ministry of Religious Affairs was attended by Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Mohd Yusof, Permanent Secretary at the MoRA; Haji Marzuke bin Haji Mohsin, Permanent Secretary (Technical and Professional) at the Ministry of Development; Roslan bin Haji Taja’ah, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Administrative and Financial Affairs) at the MoRA; Haji Serudin bin Haji Timbang, Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary at the MoRA; and other senior officials at the ministry.
