ACTIVE ageing is defined as the process of maxi-mising opportunities for involvement in health and safety towards improving quality of life with age.
This is in line with the theme of the Healthy Lifestyle for the Elderly Programme (Program Cara Hidup Sihat Bagi Warga Emas, “Ke Arah Warga Emas Sihat”) and was mentioned in a speech delivered by Co-chairperson Dayang Hajah Kertini binti Orang Kaya Paduka Setia Diraja Abang Haji Abu Hanifah during a launching ceremony yesterday at the Suri Seri Begawan Hospital’s Health Learning and Development Centre in Kuala Belait.
The launch was officiated by the guest of ho-nour, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Professional and Technical) at the Ministry of Health (MoH), Dr Hajah Rahmah binti Haji Mohd Said.
The event was organised by MoH to promote a healthier lifestyle among the senior members of society while the programme itself will commence on March 3 for three months with activities such as talk sessions on oral health, physical activities, balanced diet and medicine. It is hoped that the programme will raise awareness, knowledge and understanding of the elderly, especially regarding the four geriatric giants which comprise falls, incontinence, depression and dementia.
The ceremony yesterday also featured a tour of the exhibition prepared in line with the pro-gramme’s theme as well as a Tai Chi demon-stration and health check-ups.
