LOCAL initiatives towards promoting awareness and the prevention of breast cancer among the populace has set sights on raising more than $4,000 this year to aid in research.
As part of Breast Cancer Awareness month observed every year in October, the Health Promotion Centre (HPC) under the Ministry of Health in collaboration with Laneige Brunei Darussalam and the Brunei Cancer Centre is inviting members of the public to contribute to this noble cause through the promotion of understanding this disease with a history that has effected Bruneian women even as young as 18 years old.
To kick off the month-long event, yesterday witnessed the launch of this year’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month t-shirts and human ribbon event that was held at the HPC in Berakas.
Limited in sizes, the shirts coloured white with the symbolic pink ribbon, will be made available at all five of Laneige outlets in the Brunei-Muara and the Belait districts with sales profits to be handed over to the Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Institute of Health Sciences at Universiti Brunei Darussalam for breast cancer research.
An initiative as part of Laneige Brunei’s Corporate Social Responsiblity portfolio, the t-shirts will also be sold at the upcoming Zumba event this weekend to be held at the HPC where members of the public are encouraged to take part and learn more of the disease that mainly affects women.
As an extension of the awareness campaign, the organising committee has also scheduled the Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign from October 15 to 19 at The Mall, Gadong carrying the theme ‘Your Health is in Your Hands’ as well as a number of side events involving youth and school children participation by way of including them into this initiative.
This year is the second such collaboration between the Ministry of Health and Laneige Brunei both of which have similar objectives towards empowering the public, especially women of various demographics with knowledge related to breast, and overall, health.
