THE Co-curriculum Education Department, Ministry of Education through its Physical Unit held the Chess Final Championship for the 4th Primary Schools Sports Festival. The event was held yesterday at the Dato Basir Primary School, Lambak Kanan.
First place went to Kamarul Ariffin bin Hj Kipli from Saba Darat Primary School, second place went to Adi Asmadi bin Haji Tahir from Dato Ahmad Primary School and third place was awarded to Md Siddiq Aimisyawi bin Makmun from Sinaut Primary School.
Present as the guest of honour at the championship was Awang Hj Abd Rahman bin Hj Nawi, Director of Curriculum Development, Ministry of Education. The event began in the morning with the first round until the fourth round and continued to the fifth to seventh rounds in the afternoon.
As many as nine areas, namely Brunei I, Brunei IIA, Brunei IIB, Brunei III, Brunei IV, Tutong I, Tutong II, Belait and Temburong competed in the championship. Every area chose their best player to represent their area in the championship. As many as 90 students participated in the final event.
This championship carried out seven rounds and every player was given 15 minutes for every round. Time provided for every round was 30 minutes. The championship system was based on the swiss Pairing programme.
Also present at the championship was Roslin bin Suhailee, Acting Assistant Director of Co-curriculum Education, Senior Officers, Headmasters, assistant headmasters, officers and staff of the Ministry of Education as well as teachers and students nationwide.
