THE Ministry of Education (MoE), led by its Acting Minister, Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Yusoff bin Haji Ismail, held Islamic new year ceremony at the Suri Seri Begawan Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit Mosque at Kampong Madang/Manggis on Monday.
It was jointly organised by the Secretariat of the Brunei Darussalam National Accreditation Council (BDNAC), Secretariat of National Education Council and the Early Childhood Care and Education Unit at the MoE.
The religious event began with the recitation of verses from Al-Quran by Awg Abd Qawiyyuddin bin Suhaili, a graduate of Usuluddin (Aqidah and Dakwah) from Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA).
A special lecture entitled ‘Hijrah: Ethics in Civil Service from a Islamic Perspective’ then ensued and was presented by Ustaz Mohd Adi Zaky bin Hj Metassim from the Islamic Dakwah Centre, Ministry of Religious Affairs.
The highlight of the event included a ‘wakaf’ presentation of office supplies including a printer and a laminating machine. Receiving the donation from the acting minister was Imam Awg Hj Joffri bin Hj Abidin of the Suri Seri Begawan Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit Mosque.
This was followed by a thanksgiving prayer and Asar prayers led by Imam Awg Hj Joffri.
In attendance was Dr Haji Junaidi bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the MoE, Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal, the Rector of UNISSA and senior officials from the ministry.
Around 500 people attended the event including school principals and senior teachers.
