SIXTEEN students from the Sultan Saiful Rijal Technical College (MTSSR) have been selected for two-year training in HNTEC Apprenticeship in Telecommunication and Information Technology.
A Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for the apprenticeship training was signed yesterday between MTSSR, Telekom Brunei Berhad (TelBru) and ATH Niagabena Sdn Bhd, who are the sponsors of this year’s programme.
The signing ceremony with the partners, companies and selected apprentices took place at the Lecture Theatre of MTSSR in Jalan Muara.
The guest of honour who witnessed the signing was Awg Hj Rani bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Hj Mohd Yusof, Acting Commissioner of Labour from the Labour Department.
Meanwhile, in his remarks, Dr Chin Wei Keh said that he hopes the training programme will help generate more skilled local technicians in the future, who can contribute to the constantly growing telecommunication industry. The training schedule, he explained, will have the apprentices undergo one-year off-the-job training (institution-based) and one-year on-the-job training (within the industry).
He added that throughout their training, the apprentices will also develop other life skills, such as self-management, communication and problem-solving, among others. They will also be taught the Malay Islamic Monarchy philosophy (MIB) and Islamic Religious Knowledge (IRK).
After the remarks, the event continued with the signing of the agreement.
Signing the MoA on behalf of TelBru was Chief Executive Officer David Kay; on behalf of ATH Niagabena Sdn Bhd was Awg Mohammad Ezwyn bin Abu Bakar, and on behalf of the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) was Director Dr Chin Wei Keh.
For this training programme, 13 apprentices will be sponsored by TelBru while the other three will be sponsored by ATH Niagabena.
Yesterday’s ceremony ended with a Doa Selamat recitation.
Also in attendance were officials from IBTE, senior executives from TelBru and ATH Niagabena, MTSSR officers, as well as the apprentices, parents and guardians.
