A MEMORANDUM of Agreement (MoA) signing between Brunei International Gateway Sdn Bhd (BIG) with BEST Cable Corporation Pte Ltd (BCC) was held yesterday at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas.
Signing on behalf of BIG was John Murray, Chief Executive Officer of BIG, while on behalf of BCC was Jasmi Adenan Thien, Chief Executive Officer of BCC.
The witnesses were Dato Paduka Lim Jock Hoi, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade; Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Communications and as Chairman of BIG; and representatives from Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines.
The MoA enables both companies to work together towards the realisation of linking the BIMP-EAGA region with the United States and the rest of the Asean and Asian countries via interconnections with existing direct submarine cable systems of the Asia America Gateway (AAG) cable from Guam to the US, the Asia America Gateway (AAG) cable system and Southeast Asia Japan Cable System (SJC) from Brunei onwards.
BEST cable system is a sub-regional high bandwidth fibre optic cable system that covers over 5,092km with an initial of 2.4Tb capacity.
The system will be complemented by satellite infrastructure, with individual teleport networks in every Cable Landing Stations in Brunei, Sabah and Southern Philippines respectively.
These teleports shall serve as the restoral routes for the BEST Cable network.
