ALOR SETAR (Bernama) – The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) rescued three Thai fishermen and a local fisherman when their boat sank after being hit by strong waves at Pulau Segantang, about 5.8 nautical miles from Pulau Langkawi Friday night.
The trawler boat, skippered by Chai Panfong, 46, with three other crew members namely Bunsong Phromdecha, 72, Theerawat Boonpluk, 38, and Shafie Darus, 35, sank at about 9.40 last night.
The Director of Operations, Northern Maritime Region, MMEA Captain Salim Ahmad said his men headed to the scene of the incident at 10.40pm after receiving a call at 10.35pm.
“At 11.49pm we found the four victims about 4.8 nautical miles north-west of Pulau Segantang. All the victims were safe and taken back to Jeti DM 1 at Bukit Malut, Langkawi.
“A health examination by the hospital revealed that all the victims were in safe condition,” he said in a statement yesterday.
