LABUAN (Bernama) – The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA)is stepping up operations on sea transports.
The operations will focus on full compliance of the Merchant Shipping Ordinance by ferry, vessel and boat operators, and to curb smuggling of subsidised items and fireworks.
Labuan Maritime operations officer Lieutenant Nik Izwan Farid Md Daud said the routine operations would be intensified and carried out daily in view of the year-end holidays.
“Labuan has a vast shoreline spanning about 57.6 km, but we should be able to deliver to ensure the local waters are well guarded from any elements of illegal activity,” he told Bernama yesterday.
He said the ‘Op Pluto Timur’ to prevent further Sulu terrorist intrusions into Malaysian waters is part of the heavy tasks assigned to MMEA Labuan.
“The confidence given to us is a motivation for us to perform up to the mark,” he said.
