THE Brunei Council on Social Welfare (MKM) will be holding a ‘Majlis Sejambak Kasih’ – a fundraising dinner for the benefit of vulnerable families under the council’s care – on November 21 (7.45pm) at the Indera Samudra Grand Hall of The Empire Hotel & Country Club.
The event will also witness the relaunching of MKM’s ‘Flavours and Colours Cookbook’, which won the ‘Best in The World Gourmand Cookbook Award’ in the Charity Fundraising Category in Asia in 2012.
The event will also feature performances by Fakrul Razi, Nadia and the Boys, Qays Muzini and Relentless Entertainment.
Since MKM’s establishment four years ago, it has assisted more than 50 families and individuals who belong to the low-income group in the Sultanate.
It has also supported 58 school children through its Fidyah Distribution Scheme, in collaboration with Sankaran Halim Advocates & Solicitors’ Shariah section, which was launched in February 2014 at the Hj Mohamad Salleh Primary School in Kg Sg Hanching.
In March 2013, the MKM Legal Advice and Advisory Clinic – a community outreach programme that provides free advice on legal and welfare matters for the socially and economically disadvantaged members of the community to help promote and protect their legal rights and enhance their access to justice – was launched with help from volunteer lawyers from Sankaran Halim Advocates & Solicitors and Ibrahim Al-Haj & Company.
The clinic also caters to migrant workers who need assistance on employment disputes.
The clinic is open to the public every Wednesday evening at MKM’s office in Pusat Belia.
MKM, a non-profit and non-government organisation run by volunteers, in its press release, appreciates the support of the public and private companies in the fundraising event in order for it to continue with its charitable activities to help more people in need.
All proceeds of the event will go to clients under MKM’s care.
