THE Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources (MIPR) yesterday organised an Al-Quran reading competition in conjunction with the New Year Hijrah 1436 celebration and also to honour its staff who recently returned from Haj pilgrimage.
The guest of honour was Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Yahya bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, Minister of Industry and Primary Resources.
Also present at the event were the Acting Permanent Secretary at the MIPR, Dyg Hajah Hasnah binti Haji Ibrahim and Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary at the MIPR, Awg Ramli bin Hj Jamudin, who is also the chairman of the Al-Quran reading competition.
Awang Haji Muhd Shukr bin Haji Makhbar from the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood bagged first place in the Qari (male) category of the Al-Quran reading competition, while Dyg Siti Aminah binti Haji Muhd Daud, Assistant Technician at BINA, emerged champion of the Qariah (female) category.
The event also saw the prize presentation handed over by the guest of honour to the champion, first runner-up and second runner-up of each category.
The Al-Quran reading competition is an annual event organised by the MIPR and seven participants took part in the competition this year.
The competition acts as a platform to encourage the staff in enhancing their reading capability and to identify potential representatives of the ministry for the intra-ministry level and national level.
