IN LINE with this year’s Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration, the Ministry of Home Affairs and its departments held a Korban ceremony yesterday.
Held at the ministry’s multi-purpose hall and organised in collaboration with the Prisons Department, the guest of honour was Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman.
Also present were Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, as well as permanent secretaries, deputy permanent secretaries, department heads along with officers and staff of the ministry and its departments.
The event began with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by the minister, before proceedings continued with Takbir Hari Raya Aidilahja.
A recitation of Tahlil and Doa Tahlil then ensued.
The minister then went on to present portions of Korban (sacrificial) meat to district officers, who through their respective district offices, then presented the meat to recipients.
The Korban ceremony is an annual religious activity for the Ministry of Home Affairs and its departments, and this year three buffaloes were slaughtered.
In a press release, the ministry said that among the aims of the ceremony was to give its members the opportunity to carry out their religious duties while also enlivening the special Islamic occasion and enhancing ties and cooperation between its officers and staff.
