IN LINE with the long-term plan of the Ministry of Education to provide new schools to accommodate the growing student population and to ensure conducive and high-quality education infrastructure, the Minister of Education, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, visited three new schools under the National Development Plan 2007-2012, in the Brunei Muara District yesterday.
The minister was accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Education, Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Yusoff bin Haji Ismail.
The minister’s first stop was Sungai Kebun Primary School, which has been completed.
The building of this school is aimed to combine temporary schools in Kampong Ayer in
Mukim Sungai Kebun. The school is currently in the process of bringing in suitable school furniture.
The construction project was given to a consultant service led by Arkitek Abdullah Ahmad, along with HAHD Engineers & Associates as mechanical and electrical consultant, HAHAD Engineers & Associates as C&S and Abdul Latiff Consultant as Quantity Surveyor.
The construction, which started on March 14, 2012, was completed on July 26, 2014 at a cost of $12,580,000
Among the amenities in the schools are 19 classrooms, four preschool rooms, a Surau, sick bay, counseling room, administration room, multi-purpose room, futsal field, control post and printing room.
This school has a total capacity of 1,380 students.
The second stop was a construction site of Mulaut Primary School.
The school is being built by Wataniah Sdn Bhd with a cost of $4,906,029.
At the school, the minister listened to a briefing on the school’s development.
The minister and his delegation also took a tour to several blocks of the school that are still under construction.
Among the facilities in the school are 10 classrooms, two preschool rooms, the headmaster’s room, two assistant headmaster’s rooms, two teachers’ working rooms, lecture room, library, computer room, science room, sick bay, religious room, multipurpose room, SENA room, toilets, cleaner room, lobby area, security room, storage, kitchen, printing room, general office room, dental room and common room.
Lastly, the minister visited the construction site of Katok B Primary School.
The project which costs $3,981,288.64 started its construction on May 16, 2013. It is expected to be completed on January 15, 2015.
Among the facilities in the school include administration and classrooms, kindergarten and multipurpose hall, canteen, car parks, unloading area, entrance and other related facilities.
Also following the visit to witness the implementation of projects under the NDP were Dr Haji Junaidi bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the Ministry of Education, Dato Paduka Dr Haji Zulkarnain bin Haji Hanafi, Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education, Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the Ministry of Education, Haji Abd Rahim bin Derus, Acting Director-General of Education as well as the Directors and Senior officers of the Ministry of Education.
