MINISTER of Industry and Primary Resources, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Yahya bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, yesterday afternoon officially opened the BIMP-EAGA Tourism Trade Expo at the International Convention Centre (ICC), Berakas.
The four-day exhibition features tourism products, hotel services, indigenous crafts and handiworks of member countries for sale to local Bruneians and visitors.
The minister later toured the exhibition and visited various booths including the Malaysia Pavilion where he was received and accompanied by the Malaysian High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam, Datuk Awang Sahak bin Awang Salleh.
According to a statement, Sarawak is participating in the exhibition featuring three Miri hotels and a resort, two travel agents and also the members of the Miri branch of Dewan Usahawan Bumiputera Sarawak.
The event also saw the Sarawak’s Minister for Tourism, Datuk Amar Abang Haji Johari Tun Openg, who is in the Sultanate attending the BIMP-EAGA Ministerial Meeting also visiting the Malaysian Pavilion, accompanied by Datuk Awang Sahak.
