Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman was yesterday in Tutong to inspect projects that look to enhance community infrastructural facilities in the district.
The completion of community centre projects and upgrade of community stations received the attention of the minister, who was welcomed by Tutong District Officer Wardi bin Haji Mohammad Ali as well as penghulus and village heads of Mukim Keriam, Kiudang and Lamunin.
The two projects to upgrade the community centres were completed with funding allocation for district recreational and sports facilities 2013/2014. This includes the upgrading of the Kg Luagan Dudok Community Station in Mukim Keriam and Kg Birau Community Station in Mukim Kiudang.
Now known as Kg Luagan Dudok Community Centre and Kg Birau Community Centre, they will serve as a centre for members of the village consultative councils and village communities to organise social, religious and education activities, as well as a venue to hold village consultative council meetings.
The upgrade of the Kg Luagan Dudok Community Station to a Community Centre was completed on March 6, 2014 at a cost of $86,745, while the Kg Birau Community Station upgrade to a Community Centre was completed on July 5, 2014 at a cost of $78,010.
The minister officiated both community centres before taking the opportunity to tour the buildings, converse with community leaders on current developments taking place at the villages, and viewing activities that showcased village products.
The visit concluded with an observation of ongoing projects to upgrade the Community Station in Lamunin, landmark and cultural performance stage, and Lamunin stalls and sales outlet projects. Scheduled for completion in January next year, both projects carry a cost of $80,000.
Also in attendance were district representative members of the Legislative Council and Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs.
