THE World Physical Therapy Day is celebrated on September 8 every year to give physiotherapy experts worldwide the opportunity to highlight the importance of the physiotherapy field in increasing and ensuring the safety and health of the society.
Minister of Health, Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Adanan bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Mohd Yusof, yesterday officiated the World Physical Therapy Day celebration at the Putra Banquet Hall, Freshco in Batu Satu.
“Normally, we assume that because of illness or pain, we should not exercise but rest. Thinking like this should stop as it will increase the intensity of the symptoms of the disease, especially obesity, incontinence, osteoporosis, neck and back pain, etc,” said the minister.
“In fact, with physical activity and exercise control, especially under the guidance of a physiotherapy officer or a skilled health professional will help in reducing the risk of diseases such as heart attack, stroke, diabetes, colon cancer and also mental illness,” he added.
Physiotherapy is the care or healing of the function of body parts and physiotherapy experts who are also well known as body healers are responsible for ensuring every physical function of the patient is at an optimum level for the best welfare to decrease complication in their daily lives.
Among the objectives of the event are to disseminate to the public that physiotherapy is related to problems in bodily movement, physical activity as well as exercise.
It was also held to highlight the role of physiotherapists in ensuring the health and safety of patients and the people of Brunei Darussalam, as well as promoting the importance of physical activity for good health.
An exhibition featuring various aspects in the field of physiotherapy such as open clinic, taping and back care was set up and is open to members of the public.
