THE Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports has commended participants of yesterday’s 31st National Day celebration for their enthusiasm and patriotism, saying they gave “their utmost best”.
The minister, Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Haji Hazair bin Haji Abdullah, was full of superlatives while speaking to the Bulletin in an interview after yesterday’s proceedings.
“Everything went very well, even better than expected,” he said. “You could see the spirit and the enthusiasm was very high, and all the participants went all out to give the very best in front of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
“This also reflects that they are the generation who realise they will carry further the progress and development of the nation in the future,” he said.
Speaking on the ‘Generasi Berwawasan’ performance, the minister said, “The performance was very colourful, splendid and fantastic. It came from their heart and soul for the king and for the nation.
“They have given their utmost best,” he added.
Asked for his thoughts on His Majesty’s titah in conjunction with National Day, the minister said, “His Majesty urged the people of Brunei to be prudent, especially considering the situation of the current global economy.
“It’s important to not overspend, be careful with their money and spend wisely on things that they need and want, giving priority to what they need. People must think of the future, and have savings for a rainy day.
“His Majesty also mentioned about safety, because there is nothing more important than the safety and stability of the country, as well as the peace, and with that we will be able to continue with the progress and development of the country.”
This, the minister said, will bring confidence to the foreign investors that want to come into the country, “because we have a very stable economy, many natural resources, and things that can be further developed not only downstream but also upstream.
“With it will come partners; investors from overseas. Those key elements of peace, prosperity, stability and safety will woo them to come to Brunei.
“The most important thing is for the younger generation to support the vision of His Majesty of how to develop the country socially, politically and economically, and that is why the Government of His Majesty is investing a lot in youth, especially in disseminating the spirit of nationalism, patriotism, love to the Sultan, love to religion and also for them to be entrepreneurial as well as more creative and innovative.
“They shouldn’t think that if one door is closed that all doors are closed. If one door is closed, there are many other doors open for them to explore and reap the benefits from,” he added.
